The body, like a car, needs fuel to work. The 2 main sources of fuel for our body are Protein and Carbohydrates. Protein is like unleaded fuel; it burns cleanly, efficiently and leaves little waste. Carbohydrates are like leaded fuel, which burn inefficiently and leave a residue called fat. Our bodies are like unleaded engines that work with both fuels, but better with unleaded fuel (Proteins). The longer you run an unleaded engine on leaded fuel (Carbohydrates) the worst its condition will become. It will become sluggish, inefficient, clogged up and heavy on fuel. This is exactly what happens to our body if we overload it with Carbohydrates. Too many dull and slow our metabolism so that we don't process food efficiently. They give us wind and diarrhoea. They make us tired quickly and drained of energy. But above all they make us fat.

Any Carbohydrates that we don't use turn straight to fat. The fat makes us heavy and too tired to exercise, which mean we use less Carbohydrates so they turn to fat quicker. It is a very vicious circle and one that is very hard to break out of, especially with all the delicious food products available to day. Our body burns protein very quickly and efficiently, with little or no waste. What waste there is does not get turned to fat but expelled when we go to the toilet.

The Atkins diet will encourage you to keep off most Carbohydrates until you get to your ideal weight. That is a tough order and one most people will fail at. Our adaptation of the Atkins diet allows you to eat chocolate, chips, curries, pies, cakes etc after 4 weeks, because we know you are human and have weaknesses or have little time to follow a military regime of a strict diet. Also if you thought you could never eat the things you liked again, then you would not or should not start any diet.

With this diet you will learn so much about yourself and your body that once you lose the weight you will know how to keep it off. If you follow this diet properly within 4 weeks you will be well towards completing your final diet. But remember if you don't follow it, like all diets before, you will fail. If you want to do something you have to follow the rules to succeed. If a bomb disposal guy did not follow his procedures exactly he would crash and burn very quickly. Follow this diet properly and you will be amazed. Also there is a tool that catches you out if you cheat. We will talk about Ketostix later, but needless to say they tell you immediately if you are doing the diet correctly or incorrectly, a bit like a petrol gauge telling you that you are out of fuel.
